Cotton or microfiber?

March 02, 2018 Celia Lane

A customer recently asked what would be the difference between microfiber or a cotton polishing cloth. Here is the short answer and we want to share it with you.

The main difference between the microfiber and cotton, is that most microfiber cloths are made of polyester, polyamide or other polymers such as nylon which create environmental issues and a toxic smoke when burned.

Cotton, on the other hand, is one of the most biodegradable fibers there are in the textile industry and its use preserves the environment. Among the qualities of cotton are softness and high absorbency. Flannels made of this fiber are suitable for the cleaning of fine metals keeping a smooth surface free of scratches.

Mayflower Polishing Cloths are made of 100% cotton.
